Protect yourself with Turquoise

Having lived in the Western United States all my life, there has never been a time when turquoise hasn't influenced my work.

Its bluish robin-egg hue indicative of Sleeping Beauty Turquoise from Arizona has been a mainstay of jewelry design for quite some time (although with the mine's closure a few years back, it's not as available as it once was). Greener versions from China and Africa are also incredibly popular.

At Original Hardware, it's no surprise that this stone also makes its way frequently into our line. We love it for its earthy, organic qualities and the imperfect nature of this stone. It reflects our celebration of our own perfectly imperfect nature and the beauty that simply exists in just who we are.

Those born in December get the pleasure of calling turquoise their birthstone. But for thousands of years, turquoise has spanned all cultures, prized as a symbol of wisdom, nobility and the power of immortality. Among the Ancient Egyptians, Persians and Chinese, Aztecs and Incas of South America, and Native North Americans, Turquoise was considered sacred in its adornment and for power, luck, and protection.

Whether you love the sacredness of this stone or know and love someone born in December, turquoise makes for a special talisman.
